Summary of the Sermon by Pastor Riky Irawan, Sunday, 29 September 2019
Beyond A “Yes!”
So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened. 11 Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he? 12 Or if he is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he? 13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” (Luke 11:9-13)
No eyes have seen, no ears have heard, no mind has conceived what the LORD has prepared for those who love Jesus. The Father’s love for us his children is beyond our human understanding, we can only experience it through receiving Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
There is a true story that illustrates a father’s love for his child but, even greater is God’s unconditional love for us. There was a baby boy who was born with celebral palsy, Rick and his father Dick who illustrate the love of God in our life (http://www.teamhoyt.com). Rick told his dad when he is running it feels that he is not a handicapped. Rick did everything possible grant the wish of his handicapped son. The father and son duo have competed together and various athletic competitions including marathons and triathlon.
During the competition the father pulls the son in a special boat as they swim, carries him a special seat in the front of a bicycle and pushes him in a special wheelchair as they run. This is a great illustration of Luke 11:11-13.
God is our Father who loves us as His children. If an earthly father life Dick strives to give the best for his handicapped son, how much more our Father in Heaven wants to give us good gifts to His children. Our Father in Heaven has the best in stored for us.
Luke 11:10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds, and to him who knocks, it will be opened. Asking, seeking and knocking have a different level of intensities. God wants to teach us we can actually pray for anything, for our daily needs, wherever we are and whenever we are.
Seek and you will find; God will show us the right path, the next step and direction and purpose in our life. Jesus gives us His Holy Spirit into our life to guide us to endure for the Kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17)
Knock and the door will be opened to you; tough time, tough situation, when we lose our hope and when we cannot see a bright a future, cry out, call upon the LORD and God will answer us God will deliver us. Declare the name above all name upon every challenge in our life God will be with us in adversity and trouble. Psalms 91:15. When we pray we need start to look at the answers in our life, faith is believing is what we are yet to see. God says He will deliver us and even more than through our struggles God will honor us so we can honor Him back.
The breathless choir comprise of members with respiratory problem as a result of the 9/11 disaster. Something good will come out from our struggles when we keep walking closely with our Father. Never give up and keep trusting the LORD.
Two years ago, Pastor. Riky was diagnosed with a serious medical condition, cancer of lymphoma and he was in deep distress facing the facts beyond his control. God spoke to him inside a taxi while passing through a tunnel. God promises to be with him to go through the tunnel in dark God promises to be with us as a Father until there will be light at the end of the tunnel. His life test became a testimony to many people and God is glorified.
God has revealed Himself fully in His Son Jesus Christ who died for us on the cross. Our Father is able to do exceedingly abundantly more than we ask or hope for. God is our perfect Father who can do beyond our human limitation.
