Summary of the Sermon by Pastor Eugene Seow, Faith Community Baptist Church, at Bethany International Service, on Sunday, 7 April 2019.

Do You Really Believe?

Really believing is different from just believing.

Key verses from Mark 16:9-20

9 “When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. 10 She went and told those who had been with him and who were mourning and weeping. When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it. 12 Afterward Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them while they were walking in the country. 13 These returned and reported it to the rest; but they did not believe them either (Mark 16:9-13)

If we noticed in the earlier verses, the disciples did not believe that Jesus had resurrected from the dead despite hearing from different sources.  When we think we believe in our head, do we really believe in our Spirit?

Re-Encounter with The RISEN CHRIST

And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. (1 Cor 15:17)

“By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also.” (1 Cor 6:14)

A belief is something you will argue about; a conviction is something you will die for.” (Howard Hendricks)

Do you have something to live for?  Do you have something to die for?

How does an encounter with Jesus, the Risen Christ, change or transform our lives?

1.       Reveal the Heart.  YOU CAN FEEL AGAIN!

·         Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen. (Mark 16:14)

·         “A hardened heart is a fortress of disbelief.”

·         “For a very simple reason: I am not able to explain away an event in history – the resurrection of Jesus.” (Josh McDowell)

·         “If the resurrection is not historic fact, then the power of death remains unbroken, and with it the effect of sin, and the significance of Christ’s death remain uncertified, and accordingly believers are yet in their sins, precisely where they were before they heard of Jesus’ name.” (W.J. Sparrow-Simpson)

·         We need to guard our heart well for the things of life comes from it (Proverbs 4:23).

·         Thomas had difficulties in believing that Jesus had resurrected until he experienced Jesus himself personally (John 20:27-29).  After the disciples had experienced the Risen Christ, they were totally transformed!  They became bold in sharing the Gospel.  We need to experience the Risen Christ to have a transformation in our lives.

2.       Restore the Vision. YOU CAN SEE AGAIN!

“And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.” (MARK 16:15-16)

Jesus restored the vision by sharing about the great commission, which is found in all four Gospels, and the Book of Acts:

·         Matthew 29:19-20

·         Mark 16:15-16

·         Luke 24:47-49

·         John 20:21

·         Acts 1:8

And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. (1 Cor 15:17)

When we have a new vision of life, we will have a new vision of purpose.

Can God depend on YOU?  Can God depend on US?

“If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed.” (Proverbs 29:18)

The revelation of God will condemn death.

3.       Revive the Spirit. YOU CAN LIVE AGAIN!

·         “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.” (John 14:12-14)

The Holy Spirit is not just God Himself, but God is in NOW, He is ALIVE.  We are empowered by the Spirit of God to do the will of God.  May our lives bring an impact to our family, community and nation!
