Summary of the Sermon by Pastor Niko Prajogo, at Bethany International Service, on Sunday, 13 Jan 2019.
Being Born Again
“There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”
(John 3:1-5 NKJV)
We all need to be born again. It will result in something. Through the Holy Spirit, we become children of God. We will live differently from the world. Being born again is the condition to enter the Kingdom of God.
“Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” (Romans 3:19-20 NKJV)
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23 NKJV)
We were once enemies with God but thanks be to God, we are reconciled with God through Jesus Christ.
We cannot go to the moon without a protective suit. Likewise, we cannot appear before God without the suit of righteousness, as God is so holy. Only the righteous can be saved. We can be made righteous because Jesus has washed away our sins.
Are we saved by faith? Religions do not save us but only Jesus can wash away our sins (see John 3:16-21). We are lost without Christ.
Since we have been born again we are empowered to live for His glory.
The blessings of being born again:
1. Walk in the Spirit
Let the Holy Spirit guide us as born again Christians. Gal 5:17 - be led by the Holy Spirit in all our decisions. Only the Holy Spirit can lead us to God-given will and destiny.
2. Walk in the light
Eph 5:8 - walk in what is good, right and true. Have we ever tried walking in the darkness? We will definitely stumble while walking in darkness. The Word of the Lord is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. We are the light of the world and let others come to the Source of life through our life as we live for God.
3. Walk by faith
The righteous shall live by faith and not by sight. The Bible tells us that faith is the substance of things hope for and the uncertainty we cannot see. (Hebrews 11:1)
4. Walk in love
John 13:34 - the trademark of believers is that we love one another. Let the hands of the potter mould us into a useful instrument in His hands.
We are born of God, born not because of physical parents, but by the Holy Spirit - 2 Corinthians 5:17. The Lord gives us the Holy Spirit as an inner witness and everyone who is born of God overcomes the world - 1 John 5:5.
This year 2019 we want to walk according to the principles of the Kingdom of God to change the way we think, the way we act and how we lead our lives towards Christ.
