Worshipping God = Relationship With God In Every Situation
Summary of the Sermon by Pastor Nicholas Prajogo, on Sunday, 7 October 2018.
The theme of this month for this church is about worship. The main reason why we are created is to worship God. If prayer is the breath of believers, worship is a lifestyle of believers.
Worship is God’s own command, we are to worship our God in Spirit and in truth. John 4:21-24 True worship is seeking God, seeking Him personally rather than seeking His blessings. When we seek the LORD is not always because of we want something, we seek the LORD because He is God, our Father in Heaven.
Worship is treasuring God and putting Him at His rightful place. Sometimes we may struggle with certain situation in our life and we may not understand but one thing that is sure that He is Almighty God.
Worship builds our trust in the LORD beyond our human understanding. God is so glorious, so magnificent and awesome God. Worshipping Jesus is our purpose in life. In Philippians 3:7, Paul wrote, “… but what things were gain to me I have counted loss for the sake of Christ.” Paul considers everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my LORD for whose sake he has lost all things, he considers them garbage in comparison for knowing Christ.
Ps. Sarasta was not born as a Christian and the first time he happened to go to a church and he could not understand the act of worship. Some people can shout, jump, cry, kneel as an expression of their worship.
Worship is about a relationship with God. Relationship is spending quality time, knowing in detail, and developing trust with the person. When we develop a relationship with God, we will know Him better and we could worship God because we know and we experience Him personally in our life.
When our situation is unfavourable to us, when our business doesn’t profit, when our health is failing, what would we do? God is looking for His children who truly love Him for who He is and not for His blessings only. Every day in our life, do not miss the opportunity to build our altar to worship God.
In James 4:8, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” In the book of Revelations 3: 20, “Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” God knocks at the doors of our hearts daily to commune with us.
Daniel understood whom He worshiped and even at the stake of losing his life he – to be thrown into the lions’ den , yet he stood firm in his faith. He learned that the decree had been published he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God just as he had done before. (See Daniel 6:10)
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego the 3 Hebrew men thrown into a fiery furnace by King Nebuchadnezzar when they refuse to bow down to the king’s image. The book of Daniel chapter 3. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego pointed out that even if God did not deliver them from the fiery furnace they will not bow down to other gods.
Prophet Habakkuk also provide us with one of the most remarkable example of worship. He would not trade God for any other thing in this temporary world. Even though Habakkuk was facing many challenges.
There are 4 points we need to remember in worship:-
1. Worship is seeking God. We are created to worship God. As the deer pants for the water, so our soul longs after our living God. (Psalms 42:1)
2. Worship is Treasuring God. God is still God and He is God Almighty. God still loves you just like how a parent loves his/her child.
3. God is All Wise God. His Thoughts are higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:9).
4. Worship is Enjoying God. When we worship God, we will be blessed as we enjoy the presence of God.
Be in good or bad times, make a commitment to build our relationship with God and go back to the heart of worship, even closer than before. Worship the LORD for who He is. Make a decision today that no matter what happens we want to be faithful to Him, to only worship Him only and no other. Let there be a fresh desire to seek the LORD with pure motive for who He is not for what He can do for us. Put Jesus at the highest place, in His presence, we will be changed. In His presence we are made whole, enjoy our time with the LORD to speak to us. Draw closer to our LORD Jesus. Where there is light, darkness has to flee. Let us build up an altar of worship individually, as a family, and as a church. Bring our sacrifice of praise, call upon the name of the LORD. If we have Jesus, we will have everything we need!
