Important Elements Of Prayer

Luke 18:1

1 Thessalonians 5:17

We need to pray always and never give up.  Pray without ceasing and pray continuously.  Often times, as Christians, we go through difficult moments and we do not know what to do.  God tells us to pray without ceasing because God wants to answer our prayers.

Four important elements of effective prayer:

1.       The Power of the WORD in Prayer

One of the effective tools of prayer that many believers have not utilized is using the many promises found in the Bible.

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrew 4:12)

The Word of God is:

1.       Living

2.       Powerful

3.       Two-edged sword

4.       Dividing the soul and spirit

5.       Discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart

The Word of God is also like a mirror to our soul.  As we read it, we may be reminded of something that we have done wrong or something in our lives that needs to be corrected.  We should seek God’s forgiveness and let the Holy Spirit guide us in learning how to improve ourselves.

2.       The Power of HOLY SPIRIT by Speaking in Tongues

This is a Spirit-prompted ability to pray and praise God in a heavenly dialect, possibly even an angelic language that is not related to anything spoken on earth.

Without the Spirit, there’s no power.

Read Acts 2:1-4 and Acts 1:4-5

When we don’t know what to pray, the Spirit is praying through us which is very powerful.  When we pray in tongues, we are speaking directly to God.  When we do not know how to pray about a situation, let the Holy Spirit guide us in praying.

“For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.” (1 Cor 14:2)

3.       The Power of FAITH

Faith is the ability to receive in this natural realm, what you are desiring from the Lord, and have already received from Him in the spiritual realm.

“Faith is the substance of things hope for, and the uncertainty we cannot see.”  (Heb 11:1)

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” (Eph 1:3)

Without faith, we cannot please God.  Faith is holding on to, and standing on nothing except God.

There are few hindrances to our faith that we need to guard against:

-          Fear

“For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father”.” (Rom 8:15)

-          Guilt

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

-          Strife and Bitterness

“For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.” (Gal 5:6)

4.       The Power of LOVE

Satan can imitate many things.  But the only thing that Satan can’t copy is love.  In God’s love, we are made worthy in His eyes, regardless of our past sins, as long as we confess to Him with our mouths and believe in our hearts that we have received full forgiveness from Him.
