Summary of the Sermon by Pastor Tess Quek at Bethany International Service, on Sunday, 6 May 2018
THE SECRET TO REVIVAL
God wants us to be spiritually awake, to be revived in our walk with Jesus. Many people are looking for revival. We want to be prayed for by servants of God, but true revival comes from God.
KNITTING OUR HEARTS TOGETHER AS ONE
Incredible things happen when our hearts are knit together as one. This will cause the fire to fall. Unity in the body of Christ is the key – having one heart in Christ Jesus our LORD. Unity must first start with us, the passion for God will make our heats beat in unison with the Father’s heart. Even history reveals that revival comes from a group of believers who truly hunger and thirst for His Presence in unity.
Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
UNITY BRINGS GOD’S PRESENCE
When the Israelites cried out with one heart for a deliverer, the LORD sent Moses.
The glory of the LORD filled the house of God as a result of unity (2 Chronicles 5:13-14).
How can we bring revival in our lives?
Be hooked up with Jesus. Have a deeper relationship with Christ. Our relationship should be like that of a child growing into sons and daughters and ultimately to be the Bride of Christ. Do not remain as baby Christians, but grow into maturity in Christ Jesus. Revival starts within us individually.
Remove the veils in our life. If we have veils in our life it will be a great hindrance to revival, we cannot be connected with God. There should be transparency between us and God, and also to our fellow neighbours. We need to know who we are in Christ, God is interested in how much the Holy Spirit and His Word dwell in us. Abiding and being obedient to the Lord will remove the veils in our life. Before the Israelites were able to move forward, they had to remove the veils by going through circumcision. Our hearts need to be circumcised, to remove anything that hinders us from getting closer to God. The veil hinders the river of God to flow freely.
Joshua 5:2-3 At that time the Lord said to Joshua, “Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelites again.” So Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the Israelites at Gibeath Haaraloth. And verse 8 “And after the whole nation had been circumcised, they remained where they were in camp until they were healed.” The fire of God is crucial for our heart not to grow cold or harden. If there is no fire and our hearts are not malleable, no voice of God can penetrate, convict or guide us. We need to remove the stones and sand in our hearts so that the blockage will be removed and the rivers of the living water will flow freely upon our life. Ask the Lord to reveal the obstacles that hinder God’s fire to consume our life. Allow the Holy Spirit to uproot it, even though it may be painful to release it to God. If we do not surrender to God, our spiritual life will be infected and we become dysfunctional eventually in the body of Christ.
Awakening of the Holy Spirit will result in bringing salvation to others. Revival will show people that Jesus Christ is the Saviour of this world. Matthew 5:14-16 “We are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Show people how to pray, to praise, so that the image of Christ is seen through us. Be the example what we are called to be and people will be drawn to the love of Christ. We need the fire of revival in our life; surrender our hidden veils to Jesus to be uprooted, only then we can be a vessel of honour in His Kingdom.
