Summary of the Sermon by Pastor Erwin Widjaja, at Bethany International Service, on Sunday, 10 September 2017.

Men of Excellent Spirit

Excellent Spirit = (Yattyr) preeminent, exceptional, extraordinary

Ecclesiastes 9:10 – “do our best do it wholeheartedly”

We are created to be extraordinary because our Father is extraordinary.

Daniel was a man of excellence.   The spirit of excellence was in him (Daniel 6:3-4).  How did Daniel become an exceptional man of God?

1. Daniel PURPOSED in his heart.  Since his youth he made a COMMITMENT to follow Christ wholeheartedly, a decision not to defile himself (Daniel 1:8); Deuteronomy 6:4-5, Colossians 3:23 - Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.  Do not depend on your mood or follow your heart, but follow Christ (Proverbs 28:26).

2.  Be FAITHFUL in small things and be disciplined.  Avoid a careless lifestyle.  There wasn't any error or fault found in Daniel.  Luke 16:10, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”

(A)  Be faithful in our spiritual life.  Genesis 2:2, Exodus 20:8 – keeping the Sabbath holy.  Sabbath (rest in GOD's presence) in Hebrew means back to the house of Covenant.

(B) Be faithful in our marriage.  Malachi 2:14 – No adultery.

(C) Be faithful in suffering.  Philippians 1:29 – Suffering to be the witness for Christ.  Deny ourselves to take up the cross – Matthew 16:24.  Revelations 2:10 – faithful until the end.

(D) Be prayerful.  Daniel 6:9-11 – prayer is building our intimacy with Christ.  Prayer is reliance on God.  Prayer, not only changes things, but it also changes us.  We lose our anger, ego, greed, depression, insecurity and fear of death.

When God is involved, the ordinary becomes extraordinary.  The mediocre becomes exceptional.

Make a decision to be an extraordinary child of God.  This is how we bring Glory and bear fruits for His Name.
