Summary of the Sermon by Pastor Francis Ng, Tabernacle of Christ, Singapore, at Bethany International Service, on Sunday, 16 July 2017.
BORN AGAIN TO WIN
If you are born again, you are born to win. No matter what life throws at you, you will still walk in victory.
But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. (2 Corinthians 2:14)
If we want to be victorious, we need to be in Jesus’s team. If you are a child of God, victory is your starting point.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (Romans 8:35,37)
In Christ, we are more than conquerors. In spite of all the troubles, we are winners because Jesus Christ is a winner. There are three things that we need to remember to stay victorious.
1. The Person of Our Victory
The person of our victory is Jesus Christ. We are winners because of Jesus Christ. Victory is our starting point. During the Roman Empire rule, when the Roman general had a victory, all the villages and cities will be informed and all the people will line up to welcome the victorious general. The victorious general in our life is Jesus.
I can do all this through him who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13)
Our victories, breakthroughs and successes in life come from Jesus Christ. He is the reason why we are victorious. Achieving victory or success is important in life.
However, success is good but doesn’t give meaning or fulfilment in life. Our fulfilment in life comes from knowing Jesus and doing His will.
2. The Power of Our Victory
The Roman general will lead in victory, and in our life Jesus will lead us in victory.
The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. (1 John 3:8)
And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. (Colossians 2:15)
We can become conquerors when we have challenges. We may mess up in life but our God is a God of many chances. When Samson messed up, he asked God for second chance and God gave him the strength to destroyed 3000 enemies – more enemies than before he was caught.
There may be negative things that is said about our lives but know that Jesus is the power of our victory. He has the final say in our lives. Jesus is the Truth and the Truth shall set us free.
3. The Place of Our Victory
But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. (2 Corinthians 2:14)
Sometimes when we succeed, we forget God. Joseph started victorious even though he was a slave. He did not forget God even when he became a Prime Minister of Egypt. Victory is not the absence of troubles or difficulties. There can be no victory without a battle. There can be no success with overcoming a challenge or a battle.
We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; (2 Corinthians 4:8-9)
God will make a way when there seems to be no way. God is in the business of impossibilities. Have we approached God for our situation or challenges? God healed Pastor Francis Ng’s son who is dyslexic and he is now a scholar. Despite the challenges Pastor Francis and his wife faced, he continued to speak blessing over his son and the promises of God.
Our breakthrough comes through Jesus Christ.
