Summary of the Sermon by Pastor Monique Martin, BCS Wise Women Fellowship, at Bethany International Service, on Sunday, 5 March 2017.

THE HEART OF WORSHIP

Riches are not always about material wealth but it is about having the presence of God.  God’s presence is something that we should value richly.  We can come to church without possessing a heart of worship, this means that the tabernacle of David is broken in our lives (Acts 15:16).  Worship is about knowing who God really is.  We are called to be worshippers, to have an intimate relationship with God.  When we are not careful, our hearts can worship the blessings around us, instead of worshipping the Source of the blessing, which is Jesus Himself (Isaiah 29:13).  Today God wants our hearts to worship Him, to love Him with all our hearts, with all our strength and with all our soul.

1.       Worship is HOLY

God is Holy and worship is a holy connection with God.  Worship helps us to draw closer to God and be intimate with Him.  Worshipping God means coming before the Lord and allowing Him to fill our lives with His plans and purpose.  We are God’s people and He wants us do His will in our lifetime.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvellous light; (1 Pet 2:9)

Exalt the Lord our God and worship at His holy hill, for holy is the Lord our God.  (Psalm 99:9)

We need to seek God at all times and not just in times when we face challenges.  We need to learn to be in His presence always.

God rewards those who seek Him wholeheartedly.  Keep worshipping God, especially during challenges and trials.  God will pull us through.  Pastor Martin experienced a trying time in her life as if everything was falling apart.  She did not tell anyone about her problems but she kept seeking the presence of God in her worship.  When we are going through difficulties, continue to worship God even more and His Holy Presence will take away the burdens of our lives.  God has something bigger and more valuable for us but we are satisfied with what we already have.  Do not be easily satisfied with our current knowledge of God.

2.       Worship is our LIFE

Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:1-2)

Worshipping God is glorifying Him with our daily lifestyle, walking in holiness as a living sacrifice. Worship is not just about singing to God but everything that we do can be an act of worship for God. Pastor Monique gave a testimony of her son who was ill the night before the triathlon.  The next day he felt much better and Pastor Monique brought him for the event.  Though he was not at his best shape for the event, yet he gave all he could and he finished among the top four!  Pastor Monique was so happy that her son gave his best and she was proud of him.  Likewise, God the Father will be proud when He sees us giving our best to Him.  Whatever we do, let us do it for God.

3.       Worship is all about JESUS

God is pouring out His love upon us through our worship.  As we worship God, we will become more like Jesus.   Worship God in Spirit and in Truth, for we are the temple of God.  A heart of worship will bless God’s heart and He will bring us into a deeper relationship with God.  In the presence of God, we will have all that we need.   It is never about us, but it is about Jesus.  Return to our first love to Jesus, His Power and His Holy Presence will surround us.
