Be Transformed

Salt and Light (Matthew 5:13-16)

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

As a believer, when we come to know Christ personally, our lives will be transformed. We see many lives being transformed. Example: John Newton (slave trader transformed by God and composed the song “Amazing Grace”), Saul (Christian persecutor) who later became apostle Paul and wrote many books in the New Testament.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2)

and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. (Ephesians 4:23-24)

The bible tells us that we need to renew our minds in order to experience transformation.

Transformation can be seen daily in our lives (example: Caterpillar transforms to a beautiful butterfly, children growing bigger, mustard seed growing to be a big tree, etc)

·         Transformation requires the following

o    Right environment for growth -> God

o    Time -> Plan it

o    Process -> Act on it

1.       God has to be in the center of your plan

As believers, we know that if we want to be successful we need to turn to God who is the author and perfecter of our faith. We need God.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

In their hearts humans plan their course,

but the Lord establishes their steps. (Proverbs 16:9)

Unless the LORD builds the house,

those who build it labor in vain.

Unless the LORD watches over the city,

the watchman stays awake in vain.

(Psalms 127:1)

We see godly examples in the bible where:

.         Moses: unless the Lord goes with us, we will not move (Exodus 33:15)

i.         David involved God even in recapturing those taken away at Ziklag (1 Samuel 30:6-8)

ii.       Jesus prayed before He chose His disciples (Luke 6:12)

2.       Plan for it

The bible teaches us that if we want something to happen, we need to plan for it. If you plan to read the bible everyday, you need to plan for it that you get up early to read the bible (set your alarm, get your bible ready, your notepad, etc). If you don’t plan for it, it will not happen.  Look at what the bible tells us about planning:

So teach us to number our days

that we may get a heart of wisdom. (Psalms 90:12)

Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? (Luke 14:28)

In the bible we could see that:

a.       Joseph had to plan before the 7 years of famine set in

b.      David planned for the building of the Temple

c.       Nehemiah planned how he could rebuild the walls of Jerusalem

3.       Act on it!

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (James 1:22)

“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.” (Luke 6:46-49)

God wants us to respond to the Word of God. Whenever He tells us something, we should act on it. Growing spiritual stronger begins when we learn to obey and do what God wants us to do. We see in the bible how people of God responded.

                                       i.      If Noah did not act, there is no Ark and none of his family would be saved

ii.      If Joshua did not act, they will not conquer Jericho

iii.      If Queen Esther did not act, the Jewish people may be annihilated

Pray that God will guide us as we pursue Him and may we be transformed to glorify His Name.
